How to install, launch, exchange data with the version installed on hard drive ?

 

 

How to install ?

1 - Using the distribution file (installation file) for the portable version

Plug in your removable media (USB stick, camera memory card ... ), then unzip the distribution file into the root directory of your media.

2 - Using the "Install sqlDESKTOP on USB key.." command

If sqlDESKTOP is already installed on your PC, you can use the "Install sqlDESKTOP on USB key ..." command in the file menu.

 

        3 - Copying the whole installation directory of sqlDESKTOP

 

             You can also copy the whole installation directory of sqlDESKTOP; (Use this method only if you install a full version bundled with a Java Virtual Machine - JVM )

 

 

How to launch ?

Plug in the removable media and display the content of sqldesktop directory. Next run launch_sqlDESKTOP.bat (sqlDESKTOP.sh on Linux)

 

How  to exchange data with the version installed on hard drive ? 

The portable version provides 2 directories "in" and "out" to exchange data with the version installed on PC.

The " in " directory contains data imported into the portable version while the " out " directory contains data export from the portable version.

1 - Importing data into the portable version

Launch sqlDESKTOP installed on PC, plug in the removable media containing sqlDESKTOP. Next drag and drop into the " in " directory data you want to import into the portable version.

Next launch the portable version and click on the " in " directory and drag and drop imported data onto its final location:

2 - Exporting data out from the portable version

Launch the portable version, next drag and drop onto the out directory data you want to export into sqlDESKTOP installed on PC hard drive.

Launch sqlDESKTOP on PC ( without unpluging the removable media), click on the " out " directory and drag and drop exported data onto its final location.
